  • Parents of tinies - or just anyone who has good ideas 💡

I need some help. I had a baby in December and I also have a 2.5 year old so the last several months I haven’t picked up physical books because that’s tough with always holding a new baby. However, one, my kindle unlimited is running out this month, and 2 I have so many physical books on my shelf calling to me and I want to desperately get to them.

So any suggestions on how best to get back to reading physical books with tinies running around and babies wanting my arms? I have barely touched this physical tbr and I just wanna knock out a lot, they are all waiting for me lol

  • Incoming potential jumpscare… library card expiry

Y’all ever think your library card expired while exploring Libby or Hoopla into the deep night? I didn’t know that was an innate fear I had until last night lol, but fortunately it only seemed to be a server issue on my local library’s end.

  • Brontë Sisters in Howarth Village 💕

This popped up in Howarth this morning, which was the old stomping ground of the Brontë sisters. Thought it was cool to share - street art for book nerds!! It's been done with permission though, so not too rebellious lol

  • Looking for play recommendations!

As the title says. I’ve looked through the quests, lists, and the club posts but haven’t found, if any, posts similar to this yet. I’ve been really enjoying reading plays this year and, while there are some easily searchable and identifiable classics, this is an area that I’m new to and I would love to create a more extensive master list. There are a few lists on here but only one or two larger ones that I can find.

But since this is such a large pool of work to get into, would love any recommendations, especially from non-English or translated works!

Edit: Thank you for all the recs!!! Appreciate it and will always welcome more all of these sound great :)

Edited to update: I have changed my username from pagesandpine to grassangels, thanks guys 🫶🏼

What is everyone’s thoughts on changing usernames, profile pics, etc?

I’m a gal who loves to curate certain vibes and when I feel like my profile doesn’t fully accurately describe me, I get real frustrated, lol. Do you guys get upset at new usernames or profile pics for people you follow?

Just asking bc I have mutuals in here that I really enjoy interacting with and I’m worried they’ll stop if I change my username lol.

I know this isn’t book related but it is PB related so I figured I’d ask opinions 🫣🫶🏼

As a trans dude, I really appreciate how accurate this story is to the experiences of dysphoria and the way that dysphoria increases after a person is used to being gendered correctly and is suddenly misgendered. This might be the most accurate depiction of the trans masculine experience I've ever read (makes sense since the author is a trans dude himself). On another note, I really like how accurate the characters are! Especially Darcy feels very much like a slightly younger version of the original character. Of course it isn't perfectly or even that close to the original (and isn't historically accurate), but as my professor said, there's a place in this novel for trans and queer joy that is simply feel good and that doesn't need to be tainted by the historical realities. Lol I know I'm rambling a bit but I am really enjoying this novel.

  • Has anyone read a book they’ve found genuinely scary?!

I’ve read quite a bit of horror over the years and although I’m an absolute wimp when it comes to a scary film, the only book that’s ever actually got to me is Dark Matter by Michelle Paver.

I want something that will have me on the edge of my seat and keep me awake at night, so if you have any recommendations, let me know! (And in this instance, I mean more in the ‘spooky’ sense rather than the ‘1984/Handmaid’s Tale look-how-accurately-we-predicted-the-downfall-of-society’ sense…😂🤦🏻‍♀️)

  • Share your favorite library centric memories!!

I've had a paid membership of my local network of libraries for over a decade and I'm so grateful for all the joy it's bought me!

I love back when I was in primary school and my dad would pick a dozen books from the library for me on his way home from work and I'd wake up especially early on the weekends to binge read in silence.

When I moved houses and started frequenting a different branch, a very sweet librarian asked me what kind of books I wanted to read, and I said Enid Blyton's books. She ordered a ton and they're still at the library, looking well-loved. And if I'm remembering right, the first decently far (15-20 min) place my parents let me walk to all by myself was the library as a pre-teen.

Looking back, it's nostalgic to think of first being lost in the children's section, then YA and romance and thrillers, and now I occasionally pick up textbooks for reference as a uni student. How have your library journeys started and progressed?

  • first person pov

This is a bit of a weird one, tbh

I’ve heard that some people read a book written in the first person pov as if it’s themselves, almost like a diary.

Is this a common thing, or is it just a social media thing?

I personally read it as the inner thoughts of the character, but I’m curious to see if anyone disagrees or reads it as something else!!
