"I try to understand it but can’t, because what they did falls outside the realm of any rational thought."
When missing 17-year-old Delilah Dickey shows up after being missing for almost 11 years, the town is in an uproar. She has been kept in a basement with no sun, very little food, and mostly only her own mind to keep her company. She made a plan with few resources, and she escaped.
What follows is to be expected: getting reacquainted with normal life and all her old memories and belongings as they still were the day she left.
The story jumps between the current time, where Delilah is back, and 11 years before, around the time she had gone missing along with her mother and another woman from their town.
It is easy to follow and well written, especially with multiple points of view. The author does an amazing job at keeping one in the dark until close to the end when all is revealed page by page.
At no point in this story did I expect or predict the ending.
I fully understand the reason this book is so hyped up, and I would definitely recommend it if you love a thriller that keeps you wanting to know more without giving the plot twists or ending away.
