This is a mostly personal rant but a pet peeve of mine ā I hate the argument that their 14-year age gap (34 and 21) isnāt a big deal because sheās been through trauma (abusive parent). Trauma isnāt a reason to be with someone older, especially because youāre more vulnerable to repeated cycles of abuse. Her whole āwhen youāve been through what I haveā spiel is such a cliche and I remember feeling that way as a teenager and even my early 20ās, but being abused as a kid or being the victim to traumatic shit does not make you mature ā processing that trauma and working through it does (but 35 is still such a different place in life than 21). It is so dangerous to have the mindset that youāre ready for a relationship with someone that much older than you based on that rationale, I think particularly when your trauma stems from abusive parent(s) because you didnāt have examples of healthy relationship dynamics. I really hate that this is so often the set up in romance novels with this ātropeā because itās such bullshit and a lot of young women and girls (younger me included!!) put themselves in unsafe or unhealthy situations because of this mindset that trauma makes you more āreadyā for relationships with older men.
And everyone under the age of ~23-25 is going to disagree with me, which is fine because I also disagreed with this and thought I was special and mature for my age, etc. but then my frontal lobe developed and I realized all those older men were just predatory and I enabled their creepy behavior by making myself available to them š

I havenāt read this book in weeks, Iāve been busy with university (exam season) but even in the quiet time I had, I didnāt feel compelled to read on. Iāve also found out a lot about the author (several controversies) and donāt feel comfortable owning these books anymore or reading any more.
