Why is this finally getting good at 80%? Like now its hard to put down but previously, I would take week long breaks in between chapters. Did this happen to anyone else?

How does this book compare to Strange Houses? Do you guys think it’s better, worse, or comparable?

This story does a fantastic job at holding your hand and telling you what the fmc is feeling rather than showing you and allowing the reader some room for interpretation. It lacks fluidity, complexity, character depth, world building, and plot development. For all the traits that it lacks, it overcompensates with repetitive narrative, irritating fmc, and a lackluster climax. There was ACTUALLY a point in the story where the author just listed out (imagine bullet points w/o the bullet points) all the things the fmc did over a period of time. It also depicts a very unrealistic and downright stereotypical portrayal of depression. The negative connotation it gives to medicine prescribed specifically for depression is damaging to the target audience of the story who may be consuming these medications. And to finish it off, the author painted Nora's suicide ideation and overall depression as performative as he could. So hard to relate or feel sympathy with someone's whose main plight is so frustratingly fake. The only reason why I rated this book as high as it did is because of the potential the premise HAD and the ending scene which gave me slight heart palpitations. At least towards the end I experienced a feeling that wasnt boredom. Therefore, 1.5⭐️
