I have a feeling it is going to take me at least until pg 110 or 120 to get used to all the character names. So many!

  • Question of the Day!

    Good afternoon Bookaholics!

Your question of the day may be quite a debate....

Do you think booktube/booktok are helping reading or hindering it? This can be for you personally or for the reading community as a whole 🤔

Great book. I understand the hype. I’ve never read any of James Islington’s books, and I have to say - he’s extremely talented.

I love to read, but I’m new to the sci-fi/fantasy world, so this 612-page book was quite the commitment! I don’t know if my thoughts on the book are fully formed yet, but I can say that I was extremely invested in Relucia and Callidus as the book went on. The dual plot wasn't my favorite, but it definitely helped me get through the book.

Vis being invited to Suss for training with the Level 3’s, saving Emissa, the interaction between him and his old tutor - had me in my feels!

I think I’ll share more once I've had a bit of time to reflect on the book; I definitely loved some parts and really struggled with others. The world-building, character depth, and level of “who will die next”/ suspense were remarkably well done.

    Any thoughts on this book?

Been on my radar for over a year. New to the fantasy/sci-fi world and love it! I am a very avid reader, but I’ve heard such mixed reviews - Idk if the 820 pages is worth it. Let me know, thoughts?
