jenesis finished reading and wrote a review...
The first half or so of this book was pretty rough. I like the way the author writes and sets up his plot and his characters, but my god if I have to read once more about how “it’s a hockey town” I’m going to scream. Once the major plot point comes in (which I think that he sets up pretty well), I find it very well written and very realistic. The author writes in such a unique way and you’re constantly flipping between characters, but I don’t feel like it feels disjointed. It all makes sense and fits together. You get to see the characters struggles (both the good and the bad) in coming to terms with what happens and see how it changes the town. There’s definitely some very poignant lines and passages that hurt a bit and definitely make you angry, but are necessary. This book is definitely a bit heavier and needs a bit more thought when reading it, but overall, I’m really glad I read it.

Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.
