Well, this was kind of a slog to get through. Aristoteles praised Homer because he portrayed not a whole event canonically, but focused instead of a plot. The Odyssey begins with Odysseus on Kalypsos island and ends a few days later with Odysseus back at home. The Ilias doesn't even include the Trojan horse but focusses instead on the ire of Achill. The Aeneid however felt like what it is: Even though I'm sure the prose is beautiful when you can read Latin, it felt like myth-making a propaganda from start to finish. I was so bored during the last 4 books and couldn't even follow all the character's plots, who is friendly and who is a fiend. Aeneas' character is honestly pretty flat, he isn't even that heroic, especially in the scenes where he doesn't show up for half the time and all his deeds are done by the gods. Given all that, my favorite moments where the death of Creusa and Aeneas meeting his dad in Hades. I wish there were more moments like these in the book, I might have found it easier to get through.

The Aeneid up to this point (end of book 4) is so disappointing compared to the Odyssey (the comparison I feel is warranted seeing that much of this is very much inspired by it)... Aeneas is a much less interesting protagonist, it feels like all he ever does is sleep and dream, be aided by gods. He lacks character and does not have much agency. There are some interesting side stories, like Creusa and Dido, but even those I find not as interesting as some of the female side characters in the Odyssey (Circe, Nausicaa, Penelope...)
