Victoria Aveyard's Red Queen has been so important to me when I was younger, and I know it's flawed but I loved what she did, the topics she tried to tackle and how she did it. So since she announced that she was working on her first adult book inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean, I've been jumping at the walls with impatience. Today she announced officially that Tempest is coming out September 8th, there's an official synopsis, AND IT'S A DUOLOGY.
Somebody please gush with me over it I'm begging.

New user - love the shelf options, and especially the DNF and Paused. I imported my data so have a bunch on my TBR…would love to hear how people differentiate TBR/Interested to themselves! Or if they have any custom shelves they are particularly proud of :)

This book was right up my alley with the mix of sci-fi and plot twists and general views of the world/humanity. I guess I just wasn’t expecting it to be as good as I found it? I cried twice. I thought this was even better than the first - I enjoyed the variety of voices this time and it was more fast-paced and action packed. To be honest since April found Carl’s hand in the first book I felt like it was nonstop. I was angry with characters and that was the point!
I am thinking about how particularly timely and relevant the thoughts on big tech/power/the ultra wealthy are right now with the circle jerk of AI currently happening. I literally just finished but I have plenty of thoughts still floating around in my head - it’ll probably take me awhile to think through them all. I dig it. Feels fitting this is my first read since abandoning Goodreads and settling on this platform for reading.
Anyways. I liked this book. It’s a great duology. If you wanna explore a new genre this is a great start.
