A fantasy universe created by Sir Terry Pratchett, Discworld is a flat planet balanced on the backs of four elephants, which in turn stand on the back of a giant turtle. These are comedic novels that parody traditional fantasy tropes. All books can be read as standalones.

Halfway through reading this I looked up the author and was disappointed to learn that she is a white woman who lied about being Indigenous. In a 2021 C-SPAN2 interview she stated: "I never had ties with anything. It's pretty certain that probably my mother was not Cherokee... There's no tracing it... I certainly would not call myself Cherokee." I think these lies are problematic and makes the positioning of the book dishonestāāthe first history of the United States told from the perspective of [I]ndigenous peoplesāā¦itās not thatā¦
I decided to finish the book because there is a lot of interesting historical information to learn about despite my issue with the author. However, I have another issue. The book is primarily military and ālegalā historyānot art, culture, spirituality, food systems, etc. things that make people peopleā¦so the title could also better reflect the focus in that regard as well. This was a history of the colonial genocide of Indigenous peoples by settlersāwhich is a specific topic not an overall history. There are occasional mentions of things like controlled burnings or the cultivation of corn but most of the content is about colonial documents and rhetoric (Dawes Act, manifest destiny, etc), massacres, and other violence done to Indigenous peoples. There are stories about Indigenous resistanceāmilitant strategies and protests like at Alcatraz 69-71. And storytellers providing testimony about the abuse they suffered in residential schools.
These violent, genocidal, colonial histories inform the present violence, colonialism and genocideāand itās something most USAmericans donāt learn the truth about, and thus the colonial rhetoric and violence continues. So, it is still a great book to learn more about these history of violence against Indigenous peoples that the United States has enacted from the start. I just take issue with how itās presented. The writing itself is engagingāacademic but not inaccessibleāand flows from topic to topic well. She is unequivocal about condemning colonialism, capitalism, and imperialismāwhich is amazing as well. I have very mixed feelings but there is value in this text.

This is one of the few books where I think the second one landed better than the first one. Just like Rook and Rebel, this is a dark biker romance but itās on the lighter end of dark romance, good for an intro to the genre or for a palette cleanser. I LOVED Evie in the first book and she continues her unapologetic chaos in this one and it was a highlight for me! Granted, this is a lot of miscommunication and they would have gotten together sooner if they just sat down and talked and talked to Rook in the first place but thatās not who these characters are and the tension building here was top notch!

Overall, enjoyed highly! Iām hoping for a Jinx x Hero pairing for the next book!

SUCH a cute sequel for the wacky pack! Iām a huge fan of the Rosemont series and sad to see it ending, but love that sweetheart Austin got his HEA finally!
Snuffles effortlessly stole the show for me and the scuffles with Haversham made my day! Sweet baby just wants to protect Hyacinth and eat a rare steak š¤ Hyacinth herself took me a minute to figure out, but (as with the rest of the family) after a bit she was adopted and could do no wrong.
I enjoyed the idea of Sabine and body sharing/snatching, thatās one lingering question I have for any story with necromancy, and I love this take on it! The subplot of religious zealotry was also very timely and in a gothic-ly fun story, unexpected but welcome!
