even at 5% i’m struck by how much Huang’s voice as a writer is recognizable. this character and story is different from Natural Beauty but they’re also quite similar, in a way. like how when you can see a visual relation between cousins that’s not quite as strong as if they were siblings, but noticeable in mannerisms, details, etc.

it’s not at all to say Huang unoriginal either or repeating herself (i hope it doesn’t come across that way!) i actually love when i can start a book by an author or a poem by a poet and instantly recognize them. it feels like visiting an old friend. really looking forward to this one.
