Absolutely brilliant but it took a lot of pushing through for me. It’s 90% character driven, not exactly a page turner. Having said that, the characters here are so real and compelling, you can’t help but get drawn into the world. I loved the writing style (though the Imelda sections were a little testing at times).
I can see why this is hyped up so much!

On paper, this is really one for me. However, it didn’t make me feel much at all. Splitting the book into two characters POV is cool but the voices for both Theo and Hannah felt too similar. I would have liked the writing style to differentiate them a little more. The band being fronted by a woman really threw up a lot of Hayley Williams/Paramore similarities and I was into that.
I did like this - just left me a little…unaffected?

Guys, I do not see why this book is well-loved, but then again I am a Dickens hater…

I read ‘The Women’ last year and loved it, so I had high expectations for this and it really didn’t disappoint. Harrowing, devastating and beautiful.
