Sneakily brilliant. It’s almost a disservice to call this a love story, yet you walk away feeling that the only thing that can truly save us from tyranny is a love like this. A true masterpiece in storytelling, writing, and world building. Feels like a grown-up’s ACOTAR, and a woman’s Knights of the Round Table. I loved every page.

First time in a long time a story doesn’t feel formulaic. Twists and turns I never could have expected but that don’t feel as though they exist to shock me. Rather, like I am being let in on a secret.

It’s mid tier dark romance with a lot of rib cages being pried open. The story is like popcorn. Not good for you, but you can’t stop snacking. It will leave you full but not satisfied. About 200 pages too long- there’s lots of repetitive nothing happening even for a slow burn enemies to lovers story. The world and conflict are somewhat intriguing but if you’re after dystopian war settings you can find better world building elsewhere. The violence is described in much more graphic detail than the spice, aside from when spice and violence mix. Overall it’s fine, worth a go if you want an achingly slow simmering romance and can stomach the brutality, but not a must read by any means.
