I finished the book James recently and it got me into a deep dive on the history slavery in the US, which lead me to this book. So far, this is a heavy but oh so important read. I happen to live just 45 minutes from Whitney Plantation and plan on visiting soon. Also, where I ride my bike is near the path of the 1811 slave revolt.

I am really struggling to get into this. Our main character has apparently so much baggage, which we barely get to know about. The "sick sibling"-trope is milked dry, and so far none of the characters have really made an impact. It just feels like generic booktook-fodder.
