I feel like, as a person who has learned extensively about the Holocaust due to my culture and ethnicity, I am a little numb to books like this. So I have not once felt like tearing up, while it was still very educational and an interesting representation of individual history and experience during this horrific time. Otherwise, the writing style was rather bland and disappointing, which, if it would have become more bland gradually, it would have made more sense for Lale, since he would become more numb to his experience over time. But with this it just doesn’t make sense to write like this. It takes away from the actual experience and the very real horrors of arriving in Birkenau/Auschwitz. Aside from all this, this is probably one of the best ways for Americans to learn about the World War Two. (Not as a side against Americans, I just am aware that American history lessons only focus on America being the saviour of everyone and not focusing on the actual happenings and the parts the Russians played for example. As well as the fact that there isn’t just Jewish people in those camps, but also Homosexuals, Communists, criminals, etc.)

I feel like this book didn’t have had much catch as the first few books I read from her BUT I am so delighted that they finally had a happy ending and more than just one person survived. That like, made my day

It physically pains me that I have absolutely no one to talk about this series after finishing it. I have this immense love for this world now, like I low-key regret not waiting for the release of the third book.
You guys waiting 8 YEARS for Victorious is crazy to me and now it’s happening and you best believe I’ll be one of the first ones lining up to get ahold of a copy.
