I’ve never felt this conflicted about a book. Did I love it?? YESSS but it just felt like something was missing. Also I think one thing I dislike in fantasy books is references to real life as it immediately pulls me out of the story. Overall I did really love it and it’s going to be such a pain to wait for book 2 😭😭😭😭😭

I’ve already been struggling through this book a little bit, and then I read this line and I genuinely might have to dnf… ”I’m looking for a man in armor. Six five, blue eyes.” I’m sorry, but any tik-tok trend reference in a book is a no-go for me, especially when it’s in a fantasy. what is hapenningggggg

I was so excited going into this one as I’ve loved Lynette Noni’s previous books, but this one just didn’t really hit for me. There was less action that I thought there would be, and so many of the reveals felt lacklustre in how they were executed. To me, it felt like the reveals were explained too much, and characters were constantly hiding things from each other, but not in a way that built tension, more in a sense of creating plot twists for the sake of plot twists. The worldbuilding was really interesting, and I’ll definitely read the next one to see how it develops further! The romance was cute too, but ai wasn’t as invested in the characters as I hoped I’d be.
