Trigger warnings for this book: domestic violence, sex scenes.

I CRIED AND I CRIED. It is beautiful, poetic, mesmerizing, and heart-wrenching all in equal measure. I was kinda scared picking up this one because I felt like it was overhyped, but the hype was, in fact, justified. I love the ending, the characters, the character development—everything, especially the yearning and the spice. Like, I'm getting both WLW and MLM, what more do I want??

However, I won't recommend this book to anyone who doesn't like poetic writing. This writing style remains consistent throughout the book, and is written from a second POV. It was such an interesting touch, imo, so these are some aspects I won't complain about.

Overall, I love this book and will recommend it to those looking for a beautiful, steamy, and devastating queer novel.

Life experiences do shape perspectives and this book is proof. I read this once when I was in my early 20s and thought it was a decent read but now not so much.

    • It was very heteronormative, and the example cases only seem to perpetuate the idea that men are avoidant whereas women are anxious even though the author has said it has nothing to do with gender.
    • The author said there's another attachment style called disorganized attachment yet didn't touch on it at all. Like why? Isn't this a book about attachment styles?
    • The author clearly favored anxious attachment people more, demonized avoidants, and put secure people on a pedestal. You can see this by seeing how much longer the explanations for anxious attachment are.
    • I disagree when the author said we're responsible for our partner's feelings. Not saying we're not responsible at all, but we as individuals should also be capable of personal accountability. And frankly this is also a huge responsibility to put on someone to constantly help you co-regulate your emotions.
    • Apparently if you're in an anxious x avoidant relationship, the solution is to leave and find someone secure. Lol.
    • The author continued to choose a case that depicted a classic example of narcissism to represent avoidant 🤨 what an interesting choice.

Man I'm still devastated. I was hoping to enjoy this book as much as I used to but I guess not this time.
