20 and just got into reading novels. I had a love/hate relationship with reading because of school, so I just started reading out of pure enjoyment.

  • Question For The Parents

This is such a random thought I just had, but I’m curious… for the parents who read books to their children, do you count those books towards your goal? Honestly, if I was a parent, I would. It’s a book regardless of the target audience.

  • Weekend Vibes...

With the weekend on the horizon what you planning on reading this weekend? Are you finishing a book? Starting one? Do you need a recommendation for a book?

I'm currently reading two. Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross, I'm struggling to get into it. Do Admit: The Mitford Sisters and Me by Mimi Pond, it's a brilliant 450 page graphic novel biography.

  • Book criticism and (toxic) positivity

I was on tiktok and saw someone stitching a video response of a woman criticising a mm book. But thats not what i want to talk about ( this is the useless contex i add for no reason sometimes😂) what i want to talk about is a comment in the video. The comment was

" i don’t understand why people can’t just say “it wasn’t for me” and move on. I am not here to yuck someone’s yum or criticize someone’s work. We can’t all like the same things, I get that, but I’m no hater." And the creator responded with "Yes!!!! Stop being haters, please🔥"

hate ( or more so criticism) is just as important as the love. its a book not a fanfic. people will criticise it. it will be criticised and analysed. there will be haters talking about how stupid the book is (im not talking about the book in the video here btw. im talking in general) and how the characters are also stupid. we cant all love the same wrork. wich is ultimately why people hate books. And criticize them.

Ofc we're not talking about ridiculous criticism that are not even about the book (like not being able to see yourself in the characters) or cruel criticism.

But what stood out to me is " I am not here to........or criticize someone’s work" because no. I AM here to criticise someones work. Especially when its a PUBLISHED book. I would agree if this was about fanfics but published book? No. Absolutely not. People are allowed to hate books.

Thats part of art. Art will be criticised or loved. And not every criticism will be deep and analytical. Sometimes even "it was boring" is still valid. Because at the end it WAS boring. I read it and it bored me why wouldn't that be valid? You might read it and find it fun amd nkt boring and yours would be valid too. Its subjective. Like, if you dont want your book to be criticised then write a fanfic, an original fanfic. Dont publish it🤷‍♀️.

I hope i explained this well. What do yall think?

  • Essays

    Hello everyone!

Recently I’ve been reading a lot of essays, so I have a couple questions!

    1. Should I count them in my book goal?
    2. If so, how should I count them?

    Thanks guys!

Sifting Sands (Blood of the Durit, #1)

    Angie Caedis

All Ren wants is to see another sunrise, but when you grow up with people cursing your very existence, that’s easier said than done. As someone touched by the gods, she keeps far from the cities and the dangers they pose, preferring to keep to the endless and isolating sands of the Jahaer Desert. She’s managed to keep the marks that identify her as a daemon out of sight for this long, but when her camp is raided, and her allies have fled, there’s nowhere left to hide.Captured and taken to the heartless city of Denheir, Ren has only one goal—survival. She’s never embraced her gift of sight, but now she might not have a choice. Face to face with the most notorious man on the Continent and his desire for the power coursing through her veins, Ren must submit to the fate the gods have dealt her or fight. Good thing she’s never been one to yield. With new threats at her back and old ones plaguing her dreams, Ren is thrust into a journey of self, survival, and new alliances as she tries to escape a life she never asked for. The future is murky, and though she’s spent her whole life running from her gift, she just might realize that true power is as inevitable as the gods themselves.
