I understood going into this that it is YA and as I age, I find I donât have the patience or tolerance for some of the foibles of youth. The main character in this is so angry and bitter and single minded, and Iâve been yelling at her. Itâs an interesting take on the relationship between humans & vampires, and Iâm vaguely curious to find out what happened to June, but Iâm going to have to pause for now. Maybe after a break I can tolerate Kidan.

Hi, I am Nyx - a designer, reader, writer, artist, and experimentalist of sorts. I mostly read contemporary literature and thrillers. In 2025 my reading goal was 25 books (completed 30), and for 2026 I am keeping it 15 to encourage more critical reading from my side. Here are 5 books I am excited (and hope) to read this year:
What was your favourite book of 2025? Mine was The Broken Girls by Simone St. James. The story, the environment, the characters, the writing, the twist - they all deserve a 5 star in my opinion.
If you have any suggestions or book recommendations, please do let me know! Wishing you all a very happy new year đȘ©âš

Because of The Gilda Stories, most of the books I read have vampires. I love the lore but I'm neither here nor there when it comes to vamp morality. I'm all for Kidan's hatred for them in this story tho and am finding that I hate the vamps of this universe too lol. Question: Are we supposed to be rooting for Kidan and Susenyos to have some ETL arc because I'm not getting that vibe at all. I get that Susenyos is horny but like, it's for blood, not Kidan specifically.
Edit: If I don't see BIPoC authors in your reading lists I won't engage. Thank you for your time.

Guys I'm a witch I swear. If you know Finch (highly recommend) it has themes every month. Yesterday I was to my partner like "I want it to be book themed so bad! Like imagine being able to build a library!" I also thought of making a book theme for my bullet journal in January, in honour of me finally reading.
The theme in January on Finch Is Books (Screams)
