This was definitely not perfect, and the plot was unreasonably zany at times, but I had so much fun that I simply do not care!
Also, Cameron being a bratty bottom who likes to be bullied?? Be still my heart.
If you like fantasy, and satire, and gay stuff, you should definitely read this.

I know a lot of people will say JKR, Colleen Hoover or other very big problematic authors for obvious reasons, but if there're any more niche ones or weird reasons why you can't or refuse to read them, tell me.
Mine would be Mia Ballard bc whether the allegations that she is assisted with A.I are true or false, I saw the counter of how many times the word 'sharp' was in Shy Girl and....I cannot handle that.

So, recent news is that one Harry Potter/Marauders fanfic "All the young dudes" apparently got bought to be traditionally published.
https://www.bookbrunch.co.uk/page/article-detail/seven-figure-auction-for-former-fanfic-at-lbf/

I can't read the full article because I'm not subscribed but what it does say that I can read is "An adaptation of All The Young Dudes has taken publishers by storm", There's also an Instagram post by bookbrunch.news talking about this more.
Now I have a lot of thoughts about this. Especially because of Alchemised being a very recent-ish and famous example of a Harry Potter fanfic getting traditionally published, one of which I have complex feelings on. Fanfic getting turned into traditionally published books is not new, but what makes the case of Alchemised different is that Senlinyu used their AO3 username which is marketing and profiting off of the fact that people know them from AO3 and know that Alchemised was originally a harry potter fanfic. People say that alchemised is so different from the fanfic work that it originated from, and even though I haven't read it (and personally don't plan to) I digress. It's not truly a separate piece of work when the author uses their AO3 username. Which also goes into fanfics supposed to be free and available for anyone, if a published author uses their AO3 fanfiction writing username that brings up a lot of legal questions about fanfictions. I mean older fanfictions people would start out with a disclaimer that the characters didn't belong to them due to Anne rice's lawsuit. Not to mention if I recall correctly, Senlinyu said they wanted alchemized to be separated from the original source, harry potter/the fanfic, but they can't do that when they use the AO3 username which ties them right back to the source.
Which if these rumors turned out to be true about All the young dudes, how will it transpire? How will they turn a very famous fanfic and make it completely separate from the OG work? Will they use their AO3 username to publish it under? I can't say I am the biggest fan of Alchemised but at least that was an AU of harry potter in a way, with all the young dudes, it isn't. It takes place directly within the universe of Harry Potter within the Marauders time era.

Sorry but mine would have to be Colleen Hoover. Colleen Hoover fans don't come after me...

The haunted fairytale bits are giving “Hi my name is Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way” for me. Like it’s so edgy that it loses some impact. I am interested in the plot but the tone is a bit off.

Why do publishers insist on releasing the hardback version of a book first? i started thinking about this a while ago but was reminded of it with the SJM updates. i would assume that most people who own the ACOTAR books probably own the the paperback version. I haven’t read the series yet but I did purchase the paperback box set (cause i found a crazy cheap deal lol) so for the new books released in the series why would i go out and buy them in hardback … like that literally makes no sense. it’s especially weird to me because new release romance books always come out in paperback and very rarely can you even find a romance hardback… i wouldn’t mind it as much if they released both the hardback and the paperback at the same time or relatively close to each other but most times you have to wait a year for the paperback. like… that’s insane. Do yall feel a similar way? or is this just something that irritates me?

My enjoyment is a little lower because I don't think I cared for the audiobook narrator, but otherwise loved everything about this.
I've heard a lot of people say it's hard to make enemies to lovers work in contemporary romance, and this is a great example of how to do it.
There are misunderstandings here, but there is also resentment that has built up over many years, in both directions. It is not something to be fixed with a single conversation. Even once the misunderstandings are cleared up, it takes them further time to heal and come to properly trust each other. There is no hate fucking. Just two people who are kind of perfect for each other but have to put in the work to get to that point.
Cat Sebastian definitely gets online fan culture. She also definitely gets living with an anxiety disorder. Simon's struggle with anxiety is incredibly related, I say this both as a positive and as a warning that it could be triggering depending on how your anxiety is treating you this week, so that is something to keep in mind. It is not shied away from by the story or the characters at all.
The plot is a bit meandering, but in a way that works in a romance novel because at the end of the day the relationship is the plot, and most relationships don't follow a neat narrative curve. Unsurprisingly, Cat Sebastian knocked it out of the park once again.

I'm sure this has been asked here before, but I haven't seen it recently, so I'm curious! What was your favorite childhood/middle grade book or book series? I'm talking books that had a bit more to them than picture books/early reader books, but weren't quite YA yet.
For me, it's A Series of Unfortunate Events which I remember reading during indoor recess in 4th or 5th grade. I also really liked Warrior Cats and I can distinctly remember where in my middle school library they were located.
