Stephen King’s analysis of horror media (books, films, TV shows, and radio shows) published or released from 1950 to 1980 to highlight why he writes horror. I love a vast majority of Stephen King’s fiction works that sometimes I forget how his outside takes can be very disagreeable. The most enjoyable moments of this book occur when he describes factual events related to the publication of horror media or retells the plot of specific horror media, and if I wanted to know these things, I’d just do the research myself or watch/listen/read the work he’s discussing. The actual analyses he provided were a bit of a letdown. That’s not to say I didn’t agree with some details and that he didn’t make any interesting points, but a lot of what he did discuss was not compatible with my views, so I ended up growing irritated and annoyed lol. He also lingered on a lot of unnecessary descriptions that made the read grow a bit boring at times. He’s a fine writer in this book, and some people may really enjoy reading his thoughts on these works, but it was definitely not for me.

How do your reads influence you in your creative journey?
I do a lot of creative stuff, and here are all of the things I made, inspired by books!🥰 📚Writing: I am working on a soft scifi/horror novel, and it wad inspired by a lot of things I've read, mainly "Az utolsó emberig" by Zoltán Benyák, "Arc of a Scythe trilogy" by Neil Shusterman, "The Mirror Visitor quartet" by Christelle Dabos and the "Evillious Chronicles light novels" by mothy/Akuno-p. ✏️Poetry: I have to admit, I don't read eough poetry, but I still adore Attila József and Miklós Radnóti and they inspire me a lot! 🎨Art: I mostly draw characters from my stories, but I still make a great deal of fanart for my favourite reads, and also the stuff we read in literature class. My latest fanarts were little character portraits from Anyegin by Puskin. 🧸Crochet and sewing: I love makig little fantasy creatures! I also ended up accidentally sewing a cat that resembles that one button eyes creature from Coraline (never read it lol). 🌄Photgrapy: I only began taking photos not so long ago, but I really wanna take pictures with dystopian vibes! 📔Bookbinding: I printed out the entire fantranslation of the first Evillious book, sewn and binded it! I just really wanted to hold it in my hands. 📿Jewlery making: I made some little fantasy mushroom themed earrings out of air dry putty!
If anyone wants pics of them Ill try to add them in a reply!
Sooo, what kinda creative stuff do you do?

There have been a few details in this nonfiction read that I disagree with, or at least have a slightly different view of, in the short amount I’ve read so far. However, King just described how Alien is a “sexist” movie, at least in part. This statement is one that I entirely disagree with lol. He uses Ripley going back for the cat as an example and states how every man watching this movie for the first time rolled their eyes because it’s “just what a woman would do,” and I’m like, her going back for the cat doesn’t make the movie sexist! Actually, what’s sexist is the men rolling their eyes and saying that’s “just what a woman would do.” Idk maybe I’m just biased because I love that movie lol but this part of the book kinda annoyed me. If he wants to talk about horror movies that are sexist, there are A LOT of others to discuss (and he does mention some), but Alien, to me, isn’t one of them.

I'm an indie audio producer from the UK. I created a dark and immersive horror audio series which I'm giving away for free for spooky season. Anyone fancy a listen to something new, for free, and giving an independent creator a little boost! 😃
EDIT: I'm just gonna put it here in case you do want to listen. Just head to www.albionbyrd.com and enter the code CONRAD for the complete full series for free.

HELLO It’s time for Who’s Who Wednesday where every Wednesday we introduce ourselves and make new friends. This is part 3.
If you participated in any of the times before, you don’t have to introduce yourself again but you can share some different facts about you, an opinion you have, or how your week is going.
If you’re new, introduce yourself!
I’ll go first.
My name is JadeLovesBooks.
I am very very very very type B personality yet for the most part everything seems to work out. I’ve never read Harry Potter or seen the movies and have zero interest in doing so I am 8 years sober I don’t care about Taylor swift (I’m sorry)

This book was incredible! The writing was easy and simple, yet super effective and engaging. Levin pieced together an excellent horror story, that’s clearly a classic for a reason. Super unsettling and disturbing, and it even frightened me a little lol. Rosemary annoyed me at times, but she was far from the worst character in the book, especially given how everyone treated her. Really good ending, too!

hi friends, i'd love to read books with a corruption trope, any recommendations?

I just finished The Laws of The Skies by Grégoire Courtois and this might have been the most miserable reading experience I've had this year. Barely 150 pages but the book is so abysmally bad that it took me 15 days to "finish" it, and that is when I almost had to skim through the final chapter because I couldn't stand the writing.
Do all of you ever experience the same thing too? The book doesn't necessarily has to be bad, I was reading Less by Andrew Sean Greer last year which almost made my habit of reading go away for a good 2 months, but some books possess this power to make you hate reading.

This literally has one of the most disturbing scenes in a book I’ve ever read. I absolutely despise Guy (and that old couple)

So someone shared this link And it lets you upload photos and automatically created the syntax for markdown to share images. So I thought it would be fun to share photos of pets and people could give book recommendations based on the image (you could also give your own rec)
So to start this is one of my pets, mango. And I would recommend the wild huntress by lloyd-jones because there is a cat that I fancast as mango 😂

Surprisingly lackluster. With this super appealing cover and the synopsis, I was expecting a more engaging plot, but it was a bit dull and boring for a majority of the time. There were some specific moments that I did really enjoy, though, particularly near the end! I also really liked the writing and the narrator’s voice throughout the book. Even when the story became plain, the style kept me pretty engaged. It wasn’t anything spectacular, but it wasn’t terrible!
