A classic noir story! I was interested in reading this after watching the film at a cinema screening last year and really enjoying it.
The story is fast-paced and smooth, and the audiobook I listened to was very enjoyable. It’s a simple but clever set-up, and I was surprised by how much darker it was in some respects, compared to the movie.
Worth a read if you’re into this genre, for sure!

Piqued my interest enough to keep me engaged until the end, but it wasn't super enthralling!

Horror x Poetry
Poetry is an art form that can be used to interact with a lot of themes - my favorites are when dark topics or the horror genre itself come into the mix.

Context: As Pagebound grows, we have been brainstorming sustainable ways to create more Quests that the community is eager to see. We're trialing a new idea for a community-voted Quest, inspired by a List. More info in the last post I made in Founder's Announcements.
For the past week, Pagebound Royalty members have submitted nominations for Lists to inspire Quests. Jennifer and I have gone through and ensured all the Lists you'll be voting on meet our Quest guidelines. There are 86 Lists eligible for you to vote on, and you can find them in this spreadsheet.
There will be 3 winning Lists selected from different genre categories. You can vote for up to 3 lists from different genres. Submit your votes via this form through end of day April 8th. Take note of the Quest type when voting (Column C in the spreadsheet)! Many nominated Lists share a theme but vary in length. Preference for a Side vs Main Quest could help you decide which to vote for. Most Lists will be Side Quests, but Lists with many books (~60+) will be Main Quests.
The creators of the winning Lists will be able to accept/reject. If they accept, we will create a Quest inspired by their List, adapting the title & book list as necessary to fit Quest constraints. If they decline, we'll ask the runner-up! The resulting Quest will not be open to book additions since there will not be anyone actively maintaining the book list (similar to when a Main Quest hits its 100 book cap and is closed to further additions).
If this is a good experience for the community, we plan to run this List nomination + voting process quarterly. Our goals here are to encourage quality List-making, give the entire community a voice in Quest creation in a sustainable way, acknowledge our Royalty supporters, and create some exciting, diverse Quests!
Thanks for voting! Jennifer & Lucy

So great! Loved the characterizations the most! The unique and individual character quirks, the leadership, group dynamics, etc., were all so entertaining and well-developed. I went into this almost completely blind and thought the basic premise/the very little info I knew seemed kind of goofy. To be hit with an unexpectedly deep and sorta historically grounded story was a delight! I also assumed the book would be more revolved around a journey/adventure plot, so stumbling upon a war plot caught me very off-guard, but in the best way possible. There was a brief moment when I felt the story dragged for a second, but it picked up quickly and then remained engaging after. And the ending made me tear up!
In the introduction the author mentioned how the story was not intended to be an allegorical read, but I kind of read it that way anyway as the story progressed. Even if an allegory wasn’t the intention, it certainly makes for a great one regardless!
Overall, I now have a newfound love for rabbits🥹 This book just pushed them up to a top 3 favorite animal for me🥹

I feel like a lot of what I do can be easily associated with reading, hobbies like crochet and listening to music, pair well with reading, either an audiobook and something to do with my hands, or a physical book and background noise, and writers are almost always readers, so I fit pretty well into those boxes, but what about my hobbies that stray from book adjacent and book compatible? I like to paint from time to time, and that's a nightmare to do while I read. I also like to talk to people, and I think it'd be quite rude of me to open up my newest library hold while asking about someone's day. (I consider talking to people a hobby. Yeah.)
So, my question for you all: What's the least bookish thing you like to do? Are their any hobbies that pair horribly with reading? I'd hate to be a horror book fan, and someone who explored abandoned buildings, for example.
