The commentary in this was great! Wang did a great job of portraying sexism, colonialism, racism, and classism, and also corruption in religion. I especially enjoyed Scionaās character. Sheās so unlikable, and I loved that decision. She irritated me a thousand times and itās great because I feel that a lot of authors, especially in fantasy like this, tend to shy away from having a main character be so unlikable. It was honestly simultaneously one of the most refreshing and frustrating reads Iāve had in a minute. Beyond that, however, I didnāt really care for the plot. There were some interesting moments, especially near the very beginning and the very end, but I didnāt develop a connection to the book outside of commentary and the only three interesting characters. The writing was a bit dull at times too, and I felt that it relied too heavily on explaining the world through dialogue rather than other means. Like, itās totally a good way to teach the audience about the world, but it was so recurring that I ended up getting bored after a while.

So, todayās my 35th birthday (Yay) and I was thinking it would be super cool if there are birthday twins here on PB āŗļø but I also thought to make it more interesting if we could also share a book that was released in the same month and year we were born, just to spice things up. š«¢
Just for fun, because itās very early in the morning and birthdays are super cool and books are even cooler! š Iāll (obviously) go first:
š 04/24/1991 š āWhat do you loveā by Valerie Sayers (I donāt know this book, but maybe I should read it š«¢)
Oh, itās also cool if you donāt what to disclose your age šāāļø I personally donāt mind, thatās why Iām posting it, but I understand thereās people who donāt feel comfortable doing so.
I hope everyone finds their birthday twin š©š»āš°āš©š¼š§š»āš°āš§š¼šØš»āš°āšØš¼

Complex and unique writing style that, despite being a bit of an annoyance, made the book more engaging than it otherwise would have been had the style been simpler. I actually think I wouldāve grown bored if the writing style didnāt consistently keep me on my toes because the plot does drag A LOT. The characters were definitely the best part of the book! Many narrators, which, alongside the wacky writing style, left me questioning what was happening half the time lol but each had their own distinct voice which I liked (a lot of them were so infuriating though). Iāll totally be thinking about the ending for a while too (ā¦which might be a good thing?).

Happy Wednesday, Boundlings! š
I feel like society always focuses on the big wins, the all out effort, the productivity.
I want to hear your small wins, the ones that would go unnoticed as a win if you didnāt mention them.
Did you get out of bed this morning? Have the perfect amount of creamer left for you coffee? Did a stray cat meow at you and made you feel warm and fuzzy?
These are all wins! I want to hear your micro wins for the week! šš»šš»šš»
