I was intrigued so I'm doing my own version! Looking for horror/thriller/halloween recs that's under 250 pages. I'll also accept under 260 lol.
I probably won't give updates tho because I suck at that š„²

hey guys just wondering what books are similar to ''the alchemist'', ''circe'', ''babel'', ''yellowface''? or anything that is beginner friendly for someone (me) that is new to this kind of genre of books? thankyou!

I used to like going places to read because I thought it would give main character energy and help me meet a cute boy š¤¦āāļø
Now I like to go out to read because the change of scenery enhances my reading experience. I always like to take short breaks to process what I'm reading and it's just more pleasant for me to do it at a park or my favorite cafe.
Do you have a favorite spot? Why is it your favorite?

pleeasse give me suggestions for classics that make you want to close the book and wash your eyes. but in a good way. in a "im disturbed" way. in a "I need to put on something happy so I can sleep tonight" way. like Dracula, Frankenstein, and Sleepy Hollow vibes. But also taking Wuthering Heights vibes. That book truly made me want to chuck it across the room. but I think about it ALL THE TIME. I see it in my mind and Kathy is haunting me. When I hear a branch outside my window I know its her.

Hello, I've been really feeling down in the dumps recently. I would really like some recommendations for cozy or low-stakes books/graphic novels/manga. I request that they are queer/unspecific and romance is limited or non-existent. Thank you all š«¶š½

Hello everyone! I just finished the show Wednesday on Netflix (I adore the Addams Family franchise) I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for Horror (?) with a lighthearted tone - much like the show. The joking combined with the grim plot entertained me so much. At that, does anyone have Addams Family akin books?

i've been mulling over this question for a few days now, so i thought i would ask all of you-what do you love about your favorite genre that makes it your favorite genre? what are the themes, elements, tropes that draw you to it? is there a specific subgenre within the larger genre that particularly pulls you in, and what about it pulls you in? what are some good representational books of the genre and/or subgenres?

mikayla finished reading and wrote a review...
The first half was phenomenal, and if the second half held up like it, this book wouldāve been five stars for me. Unfortunately, it lost its hold on me during Jayās many attempts at escape. I kinda expected this book to give Andy Weir sci-fi, where a lot more science would be incorporated, and I think this expectation caused my interest in it to decline since there werenāt many science-y escape ideas. The book focused a lot on grief and had some pretty dramatic moments because of it. I did not mind that, and it was touching, but it became a bit annoying after a while, and I feel that I wouldāve been way more affected by that theme of grief had the story been intertwined with that science-y feel I mentioned to create more of a balance with the grief (if that makes sense). So, I liked the plot and the theme of grief, but my expectations lowered my overall feelings about this book.

Spooky Season is coming and I'm once again trying to fit in as many horror books as possible and would love recommendations! Straight up gore isn't always my cup of tea, but I devour all things unsettling, creepy, horrifying, and eerie.
A few faves for example:
T. Kingfisher (literally everything) The Reformatory - Tananarive Due My Darling Dreadful Thing - Johanna van Veen Into the Drowning Deep - Mira Grant The Buffalo Hunter Hunter - Stephen Graham Jones

Hey all! So, I have to go back to class in a few days and was wondering if there are any good books that are maybe a little shorter or simply better to digest in smaller quantities such as when I'm on public transport or just in between lessons. Preferably something with gothic undertones or anything with vibes that are better suited for autumn-time (SO excited for this season!) Just curious to see if anyone has any good reads that I can pick up soon :)

How have you picked yours? Favourite books only? All 5āļø reads? Do you switch them out or keep them the same?
Mine are not necessarily all 5āļø reads and I have a hard time swapping them out but I do feel my current five represent me really well. I think adding a romance in there would probably round me out (First-Time Caller or Happy Placeā¦)!
Hereās why I picked mine: Blood Over Bright Haven: Complex characters and impressive, intricate themes and planned story structure that makes me appreciate the craft that is writing!
Our Wives Under the Sea: Beautiful, poetic, dark writing with a lot of symbolism that I love to mull over and slowly devour.
Masters of Death: Comedic premise making way for a mind-altering, unexpectedly emotional payoff that makes me want to laugh and cry simultaneously as I wonder at how stories can be so impactful.
What Moves The Dead: Spooky, atmospheric and SMART! I love how books enable us to be spirited away to another realm, and also itās a novella!
Assassinās Quest: Epic fantasy series with wonderful world-building, character arcs and incredible writing that makes me feel like Iām sitting enthralled at a campfire as the author recites the story to me.

Hi everyone!
When I signed up a few weeks back, I went with a fairly anonymous username just because I'm super super shy and mindful of what I share about me on the Internet. š„²
But Iāve got to say, Iām really taken by how supportive and genuine everyone here is, and now Iām wondering about switching to my name to feel more like myself on here. But Iām proper torn about it. Iāve had some cracking chats and built a few cute connections, and Iām worried that changing my username might mean people wonāt realise itās still me.
I donāt want to lose those little interactions that have made this place so great. I keep going round in circles about whether to just go for it or stick with what Iāve got.
Has anyone here changed their username? Was it odd, or did people still know it was you? Or do you reckon itās better to keep things ad they are? Iād really value your thoughts, as Iām a bit stuck on this one...

Or what are some of your chaotic ways to bookmark?
I've recently found small joys in using cute Pokemon cards as my bookmarks! I dabble in collecting One Piece cards but not Pokemon so I'm not as attached but still love them. I got a bunch of bulk cards from my brother so I've just been slotting them in everywhere that I've lost track who's in where. I think I like the idea that I have cute little Pokemon living in my books now.
