if you've ever TRULY yearned for a girl in your life as a closeted lesbian, this book will chew you up and spit you out. it's so painfully relatable, and i felt a little too seen for my liking😭 in the nicest way, i hate this book😭😭😭 i hate it because it had me hanging by a thread the entire time. but it was so so so good. highly recommend👍

such a beautiful read detailing the gruelling experience of a black mother in the 1830s. this isn’t just a book about slavery. it's a story about a mother’s love, her grief, and her unbreakable will to find the children who were stolen from her. the main focus is, of course, the search for freedom, but it’s also about how hope by itself can be its own kind of freedom. it's truly inspirational.
