Post from the The Poisonwood Bible forum
My mother gave this to me unexpectedly. It's apparently a favorite of my aunt, who is a middle school english teacher. So far, I LOVE Kingsolver's style. It's rich and descriptive without being purple and delightfully clever. The themes she's exploring are fascinating and the narrative draws one in instantly. i wish i could stay up all night to finish this lolllll
Adah is by far my favorite of the sisters. I love her fixation on palindromes, it's such a unique trait that totally makes sense for her character. Lowkey have a feeling shes gonna be the one to die though :-/
Ruth May hasn't been mentioned in so long that I momentarily thought I had missed a chapter featuring her death somehow. Obviously this was not the case, it makes sense that she's not doing much right now as she's quite literally 5 years old. However, her POV is fascinating; I hope to hear from Ruth May again.
There's a wealth of symbolism that I'm too early in the book to understand that is nevertheless notable. The bone china platter, Methuselah and poisonwood all come to mind. It'll be exciting to see the motifs develop further down the line.
Overall im obsessed and i expect to finish it in 2-3 buisness days. if it stays this good all the way through im gonna tell my ap lit teacher about it for sure :-)
