An introduction to the SciFi genre, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

I revisit this duology almost yearly and am still charmed by the characters, supernatural themes, and the city of New Orleans each time. I absolutely love how Morris' writing develops the cities she writes about into a character all their own, and that has kept me coming back to these books for over a decade now.

These books had me in an absolute chokehold as a kid and I look forward to revisiting them.

While I really enjoy the show, I must say I'm glad for many of the changes. I find the men in these novels a tad creepy and possessive—not really in the usual enjoyable way we've grown accustomed to with romantasy. Phillip was a bit much throughout, but I did enjoy the storyline of Eloise finding herself at his estate. Reminded me of Bly Manor, in a way. Eloise's character is still one of my favorites, but I do think she's fallen victim to being a bit 'tamed' by falling in love, so I hope the show does not go that route, especially considering that so far, screen-Phillip seems a bit more gentle.

Adore these characters in both the series and the films. Such an interesting story of how immortality can be utilized, and I love the trials faced by each character individually, as well as how they inevitably have left their own personal marks on the world over time. Beautiful art which really adds to the characterization and world building within this story.

I absolutely adore Karen White, and I can never decide if this or Flight Patterns is my favorite. I love her characterization, southern themes and settings, and the complex, interwoven mystery in each novel. This one in particular was one of the most surprising for me, which I thoroughly enjoyed, as I tend to predict plot twists (not in a bad way, I still enjoy the details leading up to the reveal!)
If you're looking for a cozy—yet still stimulating—summer read, look no further than The Sound of Glass ♡

Great little book of southern ghost stories that I picked up while on Tybee Island. Each story is enjoyable and perfect for the Halloween season, or just spooky enough for a stormy night read!

While these are not the most outstanding books I've ever read, they are still enjoyable. I like the banter between Ana and Christian; love Ana's personality, interests, and goals; and I do really think that the Leila and Jack aspects of the plot add quite a bit and keep the story from being too vanilla. Overall, the theme of fighting to keep one another and working through their own limitations to make their relationship work is something I really appreciate about Ana and Christian. As far as being some of the original smut stories after things like periodicals and before the influx of romantasy and dark romance, I think the Fifty Shades trilogy definitely deserves to be remembered.

I personally liked 'The Hacienda' more than this book. But I'm also looking forward to reading 'The Possession of Alba Díaz'! Any other Isabel Cañas fans out there?

Truly Maas' best work for it's complexity, blending together her worlds of supernatural beings and placing them within a futuristic, urban context. I adore all the references to Norse and Roman mythology, and I can honestly say I have not cried as much reading any other book—re-reading does not lessen the effect, either.
