His palm had felt like a fresh-peeled boiled egg.
ah yes, the rubbery texture of nepotism

"[The CEO of Gravely Power's] palm had felt like a fresh-peeled boiled egg."
What I love about this analogy is that the direct comparison Opal is making is to his "clammy-ass hands" (which yes indeed a fresh boiled egg is hot and damp and imo gross to touch), but the underlying comparison is also to how smooth his hands are. He has never had to work a day in his life, to the point that he hasn't even earned a single penny on his own. He has never had to get his hands dirty, has never gotten a blister or created tough skin, and lord knows he doesn't want to feel that toughness on Opal's hands either.
I think my favorite similes and metaphors are when they allude to multiple ideas at once, because they're then able to pass on SO much information about the object/subject in an extremely succinct way...

I haven't read anything by this author before but I am really enjoying the ride! The family dynamics in this story are so interesting and unique, I look forward to seeing how this chaotic web unravels. My feelings toward certain characters are starting to morph, too, so I'm very intrigued as to how I'll feel by the book's end!
