Disclaimer: I don't wish to bring hate to any authors, I deeply believe in democracy. However I think it's important for people who hold themselves accountable for their reading choices to have access to the information about authors/books they give their time and money to. These are authors who have publicly supported Israel or middle road. If you notice someone who may have changed their stance recently or supported Palestine and are here wrongfully please do correct me

Henrietta Lacks’ story needed to be shared with the world, and I’m so very grateful to know about her and her family, and her contributions to science. But I just wish this book was written by a Black woman. Skloot is a good author and researcher, but she’s white. Though I too am white, I recognize the loss of insight if the book was written by a Black woman. There was at least one point in the book where Skloot shared a story where her whiteness helped her and Deborah Lacks get what they needed, which lessened the sting some. Regardless, I’m grateful to have read this book.

"For me [the library] had been home since about the age of twelve, when I'd been plowing my way steadily through my sixth foster home and all the adventures of Camp Half-Blood, Alanna of Tortall, and Westeros (sure, I was too young for all the sex and gore, but who was around to care?).
Tamora Pierce's Tortall books are still some of my utmost favorite books, even at the ripe old age of 36, but I still feel they are too underappreciated for how fantastic they are. This little nugget of Kate Quinn acknowledging Tortall made me tear up!!

Loved this book! The plot and characters were great—and we love to hate the villain. The pacing between acts 1 and 2 was off, but I suspect that was due to the nature of the story. I loved the countdown to the earthquake, the epilogue’s style, the dialogue, the mystery, the real celebrity cameos!
