I feel like this books could potentially be triggering for people with eating disorders. There are so many examples given around weight loss. It also talks about eating habits so carelessly and moralises food choices by associating certain foods with good habit/bad habit labels. The book explicitly tells you to think to yourself every time you eat a cookie "this is not what healthy people do, this is a bad habit" and I feel like that's just a slippery slope.

I liked what the book had to say about change and being different versions of yourself at different moments in time. That said, I didn't really like the love story that much. The whole Clementine going back and forth in time and talking to both versions of Iwan really didn't work for me. I guess, if you look at the premise and any part of its implications turn you off, don't read it. You might still like it well enough, but the whole time you'll be thinking yeah ok I could have seen feeling weird about this situation coming.

I enjoyed myself immensely and the commentary on academia and what it does to people and relationships with other scholars was very on point. Alice was pretty strong as a character. Peter could have definitely had more depth. The romance is definitely there but also doesn't take centre stage, which is about the most amount of romance I want in a fantasy story. I really liked the magic system and it's contingence on logic and theory and how it weaves all these discussions and thoughts into the story. I have seen a lot of discussion on whether this is too academic or too preachy and in my opinion neither is the case. It's definitely not academic writing and, sure, RF Kuang likes to make her points, but I don't think it's overly preachy. But I guess that's up to personal preference,. But if you've enjoyed any other FR Kuang book, her writing isn't that different here. I don't think the humour always works, though. My main gripe with this book was that hell was kind of boring. I didn't need it to be gorey but I wish it had been a little more of everything.

This book is so silly so far!! Im really enjoying myself. Leading up to the release/shortly after release day, I had seen many criticisms online saying that it reads like a textbook and overly academic, but I don't really get that? I know I'm early in but I'm thinking some people just want to complain or did not experience academia/know people in academia 🤷‍♀️ That might be a harsh comment, but I lack the words to piece my thoughts together at this time

Prior study includes: listening to Hadestown, listening to Hozier, watching the dead boy detectives… 🤓 Can’t believe I managed to get the first copy my library uploaded to borrow box today feeling HUGE amounts of ego 💪

Divisive opinions from other readers that you trust on a book you can't wait to read

Sooo "Blood over bright heaven" seems like the perfect book I have been seeing it anywhere and for a while I couldn't go a second without hearing about it from reviews, all positive

I pre-ordered it, as one does it sounds exactly like what I would love

Now, there are not many but a noticable amount of either booktubers/booktokers and personal friends that have tried it and have painted a completely different picture of the book than the one I had. • Surface level, choice feminism, nothing that one hasn't read before from fantasy being what got my attention

I guess my question is what has everyone's experience with the book been like?
