Guys! I’m scared of my kindle 😭

No, cuz like my mother in law is writing a kindle e-book but had never seen a kindle irl… AND MY HUSBAND GOES “OH! Zoe has a kindle! Do you wanna see?”… obviously i had to take it out and show it to her, i switched it on and Love on the Brain is my current read, whatever right? so i was gonna show her how the kindle store and stuff work, but my daughter was dragging me away and crying for me to read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish to her. So lo and behold my mother in law holding my kindle… and my husband goes “oh momma is checking your kindle out, she opened up a book” AND SHE WAS TAPPING FLIPPING PAGES!!! I have a LOT of romance with varying spice levels… IDK WHAT BOOK SHE OPENED???

I just went to check… it’s Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez and she tapped thru finishing the first chapter… i haven’t read it yet… HELP AM I OKAY??? Or am i being dramatic ☠️ cuz after closing it she told me she doesn’t really read fiction ☠️

how do you decide which translations to go for?

hi friends, just wanted to share this incredible resource i came across that compares English translations of many classics: We Love Translations i love that it includes analyses and extracts from each to help you pick!

i recently used this to decide on a version of Dostoevsky’s The Idiot — there are so many different translations that vary in language, syntax and even nomenclature of characters, all of which influence the reading experience.

(for the curious, i went with Pevear & Volokhonsky for the most literal Russian translation and loved it but now i’m eyeing the Brailovsky for a more modern, interpretive take.)

what kinds of translations do you prefer, and how do you decide between them? or if you have a favourite translator, please share :)
