This is my first introduction to Adlerian psychology, and for me, it was quite compelling. I think the format of the dialogue is useful for probing and clarifying the ideas that are being presented, although at first I found it hard to engage with. The one thing I do take issue with, however, is the idea that love, specifically romantic love, is essential for achieving self-actualisation, or 'self-reliance'. Overall, it's an interesting read, and quite short and easy too.

10/10 of my last reads had at least one insufferable man in them (internal scream).
Whats your worse man in a book moment,
...and also who is your most wholesome book man boyfriend/best friend?
I need to know there is hope out there.

Winston is an unlikeable MC: heâs misogynistic and self centered (especially his thought process about Julia*). Iâm trying to decide if thatâs Orwell trying to make him a gritty character for a gritty world, or if itâs more intentional: like itâs a symptom of the morally corrupt society 1984 takes place in. (Or maybe Orwell was just a misogynist and thatâs how he thought but it was hard to find anything definitive about his personality and views on sexim and racism.)
*and on that rape fantasy during the 2 minutes hate at the beginning: was it supposed to show how the two minutes hate is how the govt misdirects the citizens hate at any one but it? Or is it supposed to show that everyone is morally corrupt (including Winston)?
Iâm looking for more perspectives on this does any one else have any different takes?
