“The early internet was a capitalism-free zone… a network without hierarchy, it relied on horizontal decision-making and mutual gift exchange, not market exchanges.”
As someone who grew up in the 00’s I have truly been feeling so nostalgic for the early internet lately 😭 like, it used to just be a fun place full of wacky stuff that people posted for no other purpose than connecting with other people. And now it is a fully monetized hellscape with like three websites on it 😭

Finding this interesting but a little difficult for me as someone who’s new to these topics! To be honest, most of what I know about capitalism and its flaws comes from the internet, and while I don’t disagree with anything the author is saying, I feel a lot of his arguments seems to be built on his audience fully understanding and agreeing with certain premises (I mean, obviously. It’s written to his dad).
I probably could have read his first book, the one that explains capitalism to his daughter, before reading this one. But I think I might even prefer something from a slightly less biased source. I don’t need someone who’s so in the middle that they have no opinion, but when he started waxing poetic about the fall of the Soviet Union I started to think maybe this guy’s on a more advanced level of anti capitalism than I am 😂 I’m just finding myself hyper aware of the fact that this guy was raised super anti-capitalist from a young age. Which doesn’t mean he’s wrong, but it makes me trust him less than someone from like, Texas, who grew up in a really Western capitalist environment and had to find his own way to these ideas.
Idk, any other thoughts about this author and his background? Do you feel like he offers a pretty solid summary of these topics, or is he someone to take with a grain of salt? Should I have started with like Anti-capitalism for Dummies?
I am really excited to get to the tech part of this book!

Not going to lie, I got stuck here for ages. Loving the characters, but the quests are not drawing me in!

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this so much considering the mediocre writing style, but she kind of makes up for it with a pretty good plot and compelling characters. Bella is the definition of a Pick-me girl and that bothered me a lot at the beginning but as it goes on it bothers me less and is less noticeable. Though sometimes I still cringe.

This one was bonkers. I’ll give it this, I had NO idea what was about to happen next (unlike the last three books, which have followed a consistent pattern of Mia stressing about her relationship before realizing she was overreacting).

Hi everyone!
I’ve been meaning to get into fantasy / folklore / fairytales again, but I read too much European-centric literature already and need to branch out. Happy to get recommendations from anywhere but particularly anything African or South American.
Looking very much forward to hearing about some great stories and authors! ☺️📚✨
