''These papers tell us that my great-grandmother lived in Raceland, Louisiana, could not read or write, and that she had been widowed.''
I think a lot of people forget how recent some of these misogynistic, racist laws and traditions are. This quote comes from records of the 1910s and 1920s. The more nonfiction you read, the more of history you learn, the more you realize how lucky and privilege we are, to have the rights and educations we have today! I will always be ever grateful for the people that came before me and fought for these rights that I take for granted. And I will ALWAYS use these privileges to give others the basic human rights that we all deserve.
I'm 22 years old woman and my grandmother is 82. She started working at age 8, never went to school, and had 7 children that survived childbirth. She never learned to read or write either. Every book that I read, every hour that I study, I think of her and I do it with her in my heart. Every time I think of giving up I think of her, the strongest person I know. All this to say that, remember to talk to your elders, especially the women in your community because they created the communities we love, because without them we. are. nothing.

This is the cost of good sourdough 🥖
I think I would.... but I wouldn't want to know about the sourdough's appetite 😬

Incredibly immersive. I couldn't get pass the first few pages because it feels too real. I did watch the movie, which was co-made by the author, and the themes and delivery were brilliant. As a bonus, it's an incredible platonic love story.

Ok first of all there were no Michael Bublé Christmas albums in 2000, no? Google says no!
Also. Why are they going through TSA 😂. It’s 2000.
Also. Did people just…..talk like this in 2000? I was a fetus so can’t quite say I was there.
