After a slower start with lots of character introductions and world building, I finally started to get into the book and grow invested in the stories. While a behemoth of a book, the writing is lovely and once the plot gets going, it's very interesting and not as tedious as it was at the beginning. I think it was about 20% that I started getting more into it. I also found most of the characters very well written and different from each other which can be difficult once you start building up a huge array of them.
For as long as this book was, I feel like the ending was rushed quite a bit. It all came together and then it was like, wham, bam, thank ya ma'am there at the end. I feel like the author could have done better to split the book into two and draw out the ending a bit. I'm not entirely sure where you would end the first and start the second, but I feel like it could have benefited from a longer ending.
While I started the book reading the ebook, I switched to audio at about 30% and it helped it to not feel quite as long. That being said, with all the names and places being made up for this saga, I found it easier for them to sink in reading vs listening and once I had comprehension, listening was easier. (I originally tried to start with the audiobook but it didn't take for me.)
Overall, fantastic story but I would have liked it better split into two books with the ending a little longer. I would definitely recommend to those who enjoy fantasy and won't balk at a long book.

I don't think I have flown through a nonfiction book so fast before.
Queer as Folklore delves into myths, legends, creatures and individuals in history and discusses how they are queer or can represent the queer experience.
I found myself constantly telling people I know what I had learned and wanting to delve more into what I have learned. Mary Shelley being a bisexual baddie was not on my bingo card! I also enjoyed how the author did not shy away from unsavoury topics choosing to show all sides not just one.
The conclusion did drag a little but I wonder if that is becI don't think I have flown through a nonfiction book so fast before.

However the conclusion did drag a little but I wonder if that is because I was more interested in learning new things rather than rehashing what if all means. Overall highly recommend. ause I was more interested in learning new things rather than rehashing what if all means. Overall highly recommend.
