I was having lunch today at a start up event and started chatting with the dude next to me about the AI and how, as an anthropologist, I've noticed that people have started mistrusting their intuition because of it. Then I hit him with "Have you read a book called Babel?" and proceeded to explain how, in my opinion, the AI parallels silverwork. We're giving it increasingly more power and we are letting it into increasingly more intimate aspects of our life, sometimes without realising it and I feel that if something were to happen, for example a data centre explodes, our system would collapse. Mind you, I'm based in the Nordics, so I'm privy to this reality only. But yeah, it made me think about what happened in the book with the strike and the rebellion and I can't stop thinking about who will pay the cost of sacrifice if the current AI-fed system would crumble down.
