Wolf Kill was mostly about a supernatural family feud. The feuding? I like! The supernatural elements? Some explained and some woefully looked over. There were some issues, for me, with the lineage. It just didn't make sense. A little over the top, yeah sure! But that's spinner rack horror for ya, babe.

A strange and engrossing story. Fantastic writing, very interesting characters. IT MADE ME SO HUNGRY. This maybe could have been shaved down and tightened up a bit -- i did feel my interest waning at parts, but then something real weird would happen, and suck me right back in. A great experience that made me, an American, want to look up so many Japanese eating customs.

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something about the way Lainey is with her daughter is highly irritating. It’s like mom-maxing or something 😂 being TOO good and TOO attentive. Nearly babying?

Sometimes I put off reading authors I’ve loved before. I think there’s a concern I won’t like their most recent book? Anyway. I’ve put off Molka for a tiny bit, and damn, what was I worried about? Kim’s writing sucks ya right in. Goodbye world ✌️

I am so glad this season's readalong includes this book. I asked my mom if she had a copy and she said yes, and turns out it's my grandmother's old copy from the 50s that she read and annotated extensively for school back when she was a teenager. Every single page has notes and her thoughts and she planned a full essay in the first few pages, so I'll get to read this novel alongside her. I also learned through another post on this forum that there is a recording of this full book read by the author on YouTube, so I will be doing a tandem read, going through this text with both my grandmother and Camus himself.
Very excited to start! :)

I’m not sure what I could possibly say about Playing Wolf, because I don’t understand what happened in this book 😭 it would hint vaguely at things, but not in a fun and mysterious way, in a way that made me want to drop kick it. So much lingering on the poor relationship between the two main characters. The language concerning their son was super wack. I was so excited when this came out, too! This is really a bummer.
