    thoughts a year later

i read this book a little over a year ago and it’s still on my mind all the time. i was struck by how extreme the circumstances were throughout, it is an incredibly intense story of abuse, neglect, and violence. but the emotional dynamics between margot, her mom, and their community felt honest and tangible. i saw something of myself in margot and her pain, and it started me on a journey to soften. it helped me start to reckon with the horrors of my own life. this is not a book for everyone. and at the same time, it feels like such an important piece exploring family abuse dynamics and infanticidal attachment.
