Maud has trouble remembering things, but she knows something is very, very wrong.
Deeply troubling, one of the saddest books I’ve ever read. I think the audio version is easier to follow than the printed version. I hope it leaves me with more patience for those elderly with repeated questions and stories.

Question for folks who have read both this and Of Mice and Men - I read and highly respected Mice and Men, but found it very depressing. I feel like I should read Grapes due to it's status as a classic of classics, but it kind of seems like the two have the same overarching message, and I don't know if the super accurate slice of dust bowl life piece is worth it on its own for me. Am I way off base? Is this book worth how depressing it is going to be?

Finally starting on a Brontë book. English is not my native language, therefore English literature was not part of our school reads.
I have been to Haworth, UK three times and visited the Brontë Parsonage Museum once. It put me in the mood to read and listen to the Brontë sisters works. (This book beeing part of the winter readalong gave me the last kick in the butt to finally start)
If you ever have the chance to go to Haworth, do it! They have an old steam railway going through and you can see 100+ years old locomotives and passenger cars, a beautiful old Main street (caution, this street is quite steep) with a cute array of shops and cafes and one of the best book shops I have ever been. The independent book shop 'Wave of Nostalgia' is a must for every book lover. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on special edition and signed books.
