“Her light was all the spotlight I ever wanted again.”

idk man this one was a little underwhelming for me

it had so many tropes that i usually eat up - fake dating, one room one bed, and a successful independent fmc - this should have been right up my alley but it fell so flat

their relationship dynamic was nice, i liked that she was independent to a fault but he never tries to change that or make her need him. he’s very much a “i know you’ve got this, but i’ve got you” type of guy which was cute.

but somehow, i just didn’t really feel anything. their chemistry was alright, nothing to shout about. banter was okay, flirting was fun here and there but i never felt fully invested in them or the story. it just felt idk, dare i say, boring and forgettable at times.

i’ve enjoyed ava rani’s other books so maybe i went into this expecting more but this just wasn’t it for me.

“To be loved by Alex Corbeau-Green is unlike anything I’ve ever known.”

i am so sad that this is over but also, i don’t think this book hit the same as the first book for me (which kinda sucks bc nightshade was a 6 star book), maybe my expectations were just a little bit too high going into this one but i think it could have definitely just been a standalone with a couple 100 pages added.

don’t get me wrong, if i was rating this book pureolt on Alex, immediate 5 stars, that man is a yearner extraordinaire!! that man can do no wrong, he was absolutely carrying this book!! i loved all the moments with his sisters and mother, and him being vulnerable with his thoughts and emotions (the bar really is so low isn’t it) and also him and Ophelia, i loved watching them find their way back to each other despite everything going on.

i think where it fell a little flat for me was the actual plot, idk the mystery felt a little bit predictable and some of it felt…unnecessary? Everything was just a little slow and I wasn’t as invested in that side of the story as much as I was with the characters themselves.

i still very much enjoyed this book, it was easy to fly through, i mean i finished it in a day so… it just didn’t hit for me like i thought it would

“Tell me, sweetheart. Is love still like a lightning strike?” “No. It’s so much better.”

I had such a good time with this, still think the DC Stars series is my favourite (those books genuinely altered my brain chemistry) but I still had a stupid grin on my face reading this.

i’m not gonna lie, i’m not a weather girl and i’m not from a country that experiences hurricanes and tornadoes so I wasn’t too familiar with the terminology (all I had to go off off was from the Twisters movies) but honestly, Quincy and Sebastian had me invested anyway.

Sebastian!!! I love the way this man loves!! Not just that he’s obsessed with Quincy (which he absolutely is), but because he sees her. I loved that he celebrated everything that made her her. And every time someone tried to undermine, this man was riGHT THERE! in person anD IN HER COMMENTS!! SIR

there were so many little moments throughout this book that had me smiling like an idiot. the tiny details from the tattoo to the password to him watching her from afar (not in a stalkery way), all these quite little ways he’s loved her for years without expecting anything in return. obssessed.

this wasn’t my favourite book of Chelsea’s, but it was sweet, intentional, ridiculously easy to read and had me giggling more times than I can count.
