'as an october baby'
and you're telling me this takes place in early victorian england??? the ice is thinning with every page i flip to. the way this whole plot could've worked in a contemporary setting because that seems more appropriate for the writing style and voice the author is doing, but for some reason we're reading about teenagers in the 1840s behave like they're part of gen z š

inconsistent and a bore, which was wild considering how a thousand things seemed to happen in the last 10%. i finished the book just so i wouldn't have to read it any longer.
everything felt so flat, which is so disappointing considering the book introduced us to an alternate universe of england being ruled by a fae queen. i liked ivy at the start, and the first fifty pages were easy to get to because the premise was interesting. it's another case of great concept, bad execution. the other girls were just slightly more interesting than ivy will ever be, and her wishy-washy feelings between bram and emmett dampened my reading experience almost as much as the out of place usage of modern language in an 1840s victorian/regency england setting. like, what do you mean you're still blushing over bram while thinking you don't love him and have emmett in your mind instead?
also, that scene in chapter 29 read like someone trying to bypass the nsfw filters in an ai chatbot. it was unnecessary :)
as pretty as the cover is and as intrigued as i was at first, i rushed to finish this out of disappointment and somehow, anger lmao because i can't believe i invested time into reading this. there surely has to be better bridgerton-esque romantasies than this. someone please recommend me anything better than this book, that'll be the bargain i'll have to make for myself just to compensate for the fact i read 300+ pages of nonsense.

i'm slugging through this book omggg
i thought finishing bridgerton s4 pt2 would help to really immerse me, but the characters are speaking in a way that isn't even remotely trying to be somewhat belonging to the victorian era. the fantasy element shouldn't even remotely affect the way the characters should be conversingš§š¼āāļøthis reads like they're in a highschool setting, not 1840s england š

I'm definitely getting more into the story now after finishing the first part. This book is definitely different to my usual genre and writing style, but it is definitely a nice break from it.
I'll be honest, I usually switch off my brain while I am reading, so I'm sure I missed a lot of symbolism and other details along the way. I'm not sure how I feel about the time travel yet... I don't think I have ever been a fan, but for this book, I'll read it.
I am excited to see what comes in the next few parts. Hopefully my brain will be more awake to interpret more things...
