So many people say you can read this book without reading the Caraval trilogy first, but I strongly disagree. I feel like I'd be pretty confused if I hadn't read Caraval lol

This was so good!! It was paced well, the world building was great, and the political themes really kept me engaged. I wouldn't classify this as a Romantasy as I've seen some call it that. While the romance drives a lot of choices the fmc makes throughout the story, I don't feel that the romance is what's driving the plot. The politics is. So I would say it's a YA fantasy with a romance subplot. And speaking of the romance, THIS IS HOW YOU DO A LOVE TRIANGLE THANK YOU VERY MUCH đŁď¸ like I genuinely have no idea who I want her to end up with at this point. The characters were written so well. I feel like they were true to themselves throughout the story and that the character development is progressing very naturally. The Irish names were tough to get through at first, but the pronunciation guide at the beginning was really helpful and I feel like I learned about Irish phonetics along the way because of it. Overall, this was truly a breath of fresh air and I'm so stoked to read the next book once it comes out!

I'm honestly a bit confused so far. Also the fact that it took me like an hour to read 21 pages is insane... These pages are long af and so are some of the chapters it seems. My Kindle is estimating 32 minutes for chapter 3 and it estimated 30 for chapter 1. That's so wild. About to be a long ass book I guess lol
