  • Additional info on books

I just saw @Olivka's post about wanting more YA books in quests and readalongs where some boundlings said that many books to earn badges aren't very mature even if they aren't marketed to a younger audience.

While I am not underage, I am not too inclined towards reading books with sexual themes and spicy scenes. I also have a teen sibling who is a voracious reader and I've just introduced them to PB and they love it. I do wish though that there were quests I could confidently recommend for that age group except the two I know are MG.

My suggestion is that there can be an addition of a spice and age rating system (much like for movies) that allows interested readers to decide if they want to read a book at first glance. I am aware that sites like StoryGraph and romance.io have these features of trigger warnings and and spice ratings, which use often. But it would be preferable to have everything all in one place and there was a better way of judging how appropriate a book is. What are your thoughts on this?

Very easy read, and you can interpret this both ways. One, it only took me two days to finish it because the language and storyline was so simple, and doesn't require interpretation. Two, the language and storyline was too simple, and there were very baseline and direct. I have noticed they used the exact same phrase (eg: "If X knows I'm lying, s/he doesn't show it) a bit too much. Not saying I'm a philosopher, but this was definitely a book for a much younger audience.

I am not a big fan of the setting. If anything is "too American" (personal opinion) it would be this whole highschool environment of this book. However, the plot is quite interesting and encourages me to sit down and read the book whole because it keeps on makes me guess on who was the perpretator, and I enjoyed that!

Would not read this book again, but I would read the sequel as a "filler book" to read in between big, heavy readings.

  • History is pointless.

is what I used to think when I was a teenager. I hated learning history because I was forced to memorise uninteresting things, and I hate uninteresting things. I always used to say, why are we looking back at the past and not more into the future?

Oh, how silly and simpleminded I was.

Snce then, I grew up to be an adult who is politically involved where I can, because everything is politics. Yes, even our entertainment. I failed to see that as a teen, but I don't beat myself up for it. I just have to make up the time. I grow to be someone proud of my roots, proud of where my ancestors were from, proud of myself.

Now, especially since I moved so far away from home I'm really interested in history. How humans lived, how places and cultures were born, how politics were always and constantly involved in every decision made up to this date.

I would love to read more non-fiction books, and I would love to start with history. I think the certain topics I would really love to learn most about would be: Southeast Asian history, Women, British Royal Family (not particularly in awe, but in what they have done), Capitalism, Industry, War, etc.

Please drop your recommendations for me to have a look at! I would appreciate it very much :)
