š i usually read romance books as a palate cleanser but this book (THIS BOOK!!) is just a poignant piece of writing that i kept close to my heart. the title lends itself heavy for the tropes in this book: found family, friendship, grief, and hope. i would want the younger version of me to be able to find this book and read it, not for the idea of romance, but for the hope of community, the lessons of becoming and navigating girlhood and womanhood, and how important it is to confront both the sadness and the joy in one's life. i have nothing but fondness for Gaskell's writing, her penchant for layering moods with music and poetry, and filipino representation.

my kindle unlimitedmaxxing has led me to this. i don't really like the "instant love" factor without anything to back it up but i could have used more scenes to establish their relationship. i did love the possible universe of having an ad agency being ran by all kinds of beings.
