I wish this book would have let us spent some time in 12; jumping into the games, its horrors and the cruelty of the Capitol feels voyeuristic and exploitative. This is absolutely the saddest book in the series by far. I‘m looking forward to the movie but I tear up anytime I see snippets of the trailer.
I used to want a separate story on Finnick, and I can‘t say I wish for that anymore. I would much rather learn more about the districts, their traditions and how those compare to ours, or how Katniss‘ generation onwards continued to live and rebuild after defeating the Capitol. I guess I wish for some hope, like there was in the main series, as our own world seems very bleak right now.

“And maybe it won’t be realized today, maybe not in our lifetime. Maybe it will take generations. We’re all part of a continuum. Does that make it pointless?”
It’s a tough pill to swallow - realising that we’re all just a part of human existence that spans tens of thousands of years. It’s so unfortunate that some people have to endure more than others before the change for the better.
Reminds of the state of the world today and how the future seems bleaker now than it did a decade ago.

I want to read it again. I suspect I am not the only one that feels this way after finishing this greek tragedy.

What is like a monumental, amazing episode of TV that really wedged itself into your brain permanently?
Mine would be Buffy The Vampire Slayer S5 E15 "The Body"

I don’t know how Haymitch can entertain the idea of having kids, even only in his mind. What I always admired about Katniss is how vehemently she was against having children under the regime.
I guess I’m a bit radical on this point, because I don’t plan on bringing children into our current world. But that’s something I’m always thinking about whenever I read the series - how could anyone willingly have children in Panem? I get wanting to have children with someone you love, but isn’t it wildly selfish at that point? While people in Panem, especially in poorer districts, probably don’t have access to any type of birth control or abortion (legally, at least), wouldn’t you just want to avoid pp in vv sex like the plague? Of course, I’m only talking about children conceived through consensual sex.
