I don’t know how Haymitch can entertain the idea of having kids, even only in his mind. What I always admired about Katniss is how vehemently she was against having children under the regime.

I guess I’m a bit radical on this point, because I don’t plan on bringing children into our current world. But that’s something I’m always thinking about whenever I read the series - how could anyone willingly have children in Panem? I get wanting to have children with someone you love, but isn’t it wildly selfish at that point? While people in Panem, especially in poorer districts, probably don’t have access to any type of birth control or abortion (legally, at least), wouldn’t you just want to avoid pp in vv sex like the plague? Of course, I’m only talking about children conceived through consensual sex.

I'm reading this after reading Wuthering Heights, is adopted sibling obsession a common theme of literary classics or is this just a coincidence? (I went into both novels knowing next to nothing about their characters.)

  • Words you always notice?

Am I the only one who notices specific words throughout their reading? Not words you hate, just words you flag? For example, 'dais' seems to be used in almost every fantasy book. Or I always note when 'cerulean' is used regardless of genre.

In scientific writing I always notice the word 'paucity' because I had an advisor who used it in nearly every paper... So that one does lean a bit more towards hated words for me haha

  • Cover turn offs inquiry

What's all of yalls' biggest opinions on books covers? Like what's the one thing that usually you see on a cover or you don't see on a cover that makes or breaks a book buy for ya?

Like I personally, I don't like seeing the male lover interest on the cover, like I'll read it but I'm not buying it. I don't particularly enjoy having that in my bookshelf. (No hate if you like it, I just most enjoy having books I can display.)

  • Any recommendations on free audiobook apps

I love listening to audiobooks while reading but I can't seem to find an app that has free audiobook books.

If anyone has any recommendations I would really appreciate it.

Especially if they have the balled of never after and a true love's curse as that's what I am currently trying to listen to and read now.

  • Planning Your Reading

How far ahead do you plan your next reads?

I didn’t use to do this and choose my next book only when I’m done with my current one. But bc of readalongs here and buddy reads and BOTMs in some Discord servers, I have March planned in advance even before it was February.

Before now it didn’t quite click that I already had my next five reads planned and… I’m not sure I like it.

What about you? And bonus question: How many books in advance do you think is reasonable to plan ahead?
