First of all, upon picking up this book I had no idea it was a retelling of “Carmilla”… oops! I am quite fond of the source material and my first impression of this retelling is that the narrator has an interesting perspective, but I am longing for some good dialogue. The environmental descriptions are incredibly successful. The picture has been painted and I am waiting for the characters to win me over.

i’m really wondering how i would fare in a world like this. the way the author describes human articles of clothing or furniture is with a certain delicacy that doesn’t frighten me even though the concept is inherently gruesome.
