The concept for this novel was so cool. Your soulmate is actively trying to kill you in every reincarnation. Each chapter takes us to a new location and time period. All so cool.
The twist at the end is unexpected. It was not the direction I thought it was going. And I think that is why I was hanging on the edge of my seat waiting to find out.
My few gripes ultimately come down to pacing. The last 25% of the book had so much to tie up that the narrative relies on telling us information. It just wasn’t as satisfying as everything leading up to this ending.
This book made me reflect on the upside of grief. It made me think of the quotation, “what is grief if not love persisting? ” I loved the complexity of that.

Did watching the 1997 performance of Silver Springs finally prompt me to start this? Yes, yes it did. I'm honestly surprised with how long it's taken me to get to this since I'm obsessed with music history
I was also told that it's best experienced as an audiobook and that's proving to be true so far!!

This is going to sound so very heartless but I don't understand how Gracie is the one that is making both of them so desperate. She does not seem any more or less interesting or worthy of love than the family members they have had before. It feels like a big hole in the story.
