I had this thought before reading the first “Past” chapter. I’m somewhat convinced that Evander is not fully human. I think he is either a human plant hybrid born from the garden of Hazelwood, or he died in the car accident with his parents and was buried in the garden where he came back to life Pet Sematary style.

I started thinking this when he was having the conversation with Byron in the Conservatory, right before he died. Byron mentioned Evander needing another surgery, but Evander doesn’t even know what the surgeries are for. It’s suspicious a 17 year old wouldn’t understand what or why they needed surgery, even at a super broad level. I also feel like Evander’s memory from before his parents car accident is very inconsistent. It just feels like he has no memories from before he was 10. This could be blamed on the head trauma, or it could be blamed on the fact that he didn’t actually have a childhood.

These theories started taking off even more after reading the first “Past” chapter. Laurie saying things like “I just wanted to play with you”, almost like Evander was a ghost or imaginary thing or some otherworldly creature. Also, Laurie named Evander in the moment he was trying to hide him from Byron, as if he wasn’t a person already. He also tells Evander “remember you love me best”, which may be why Evander is so obsessed with Laurie, like it was some spell from his creation.

Not even to mention the injuries he sustained himself and dealt to Laurie. Both seem supernatural in terms of what he could withstand and what he inflicted.

I’m excited to read more of the Past chapters and find out what really happened!

Okay something or someone wants Mallory at Shore College. Offering her the scholarship seems suspicious to me, something to draw her to the school. Also, if Aunt Penelope is telling the truth and didn’t create the memorial in the theater, then who did? Maybe someone who knows the truth about Mallory’s mom?

Ezra is also sus. Why did he leave his prestigious school in his last year to be an assistant director of a play at another theater school? He is taking way too much of an interest in Mallory and already seems to know who she is, or at least know things about her. He’s not what he seems to be.

I have a couple different theories but I’m not 100% sure how it all fits together just yet.

I think the monsters are caused by Andrew’s stories, not Thomas’ drawings. I’m still not totally sold on if the monsters are real or if Andrew is having a mental breakdown.

Also, something happened with Andrew the previous school year and I think it has something to do with why there’s a fence around the campus now. I think the biggest thing that would make a school suddenly put up a fence is a student’s death. I think Dove died in an accident in the forest and Andrew is imagining her this year. She’s never around Andrew and other people. She didn’t speak to their father in the car. People are surprised Andrew returned to the school. And I think after her death Andrew punched the mirror because his face reminded him of his dead twin & that’s where his scars came from.

Regarding Thomas and Lana’s fight before the school trip - I don’t know if Thomas was the cause of Dove’s accident or Lana thinks Thomas needs to try to bring Andrew to reality about his twin being dead.

Anyway those are my current scattered theories 🥀
