Dnf @ 77% It started off good then got bad quickly. Not the writing necessarily but their relationship. The author says it’s going to be a beautiful love story and honestly, to start with, it was setting things up to be! But they fall too fast. Get get physical with each other too early on for me. I need there to me a little more “ouuu maybe we shouldn’t do this” before you fully hop on the train of “I hope I get my freshly 18 year old sister pregnant”. Things I liked! 1. The representation of depression. I thought it felt accurate and real. Not so much her bipolar as a whole but the depression was good. 2. At first I liked the metaphor for the sickness! I thought it was clever and made sense. But then it started to lose its charm and didn’t mean as much when it was brought up. But at that point I was pretty much done with reading and wasn’t enjoying anything. Things I didn’t like😳 1. She’s 17 :) maybe there’s a time jump and they get older but for majority of the book she is 17 and I just don’t enjoy reading about young people in sexual situations 2. I in general just don’t like pregnancy tropes. Here all day for the breeding but I need it like in Little Stranger where he didn’t actually want to get her pregnant but this one? They were both DOWN TO CLOWN 3. How basically everyone knew they were fucking. They get caught too many times for my liking. After she’s in his dorm that’s when I finally gave up. I think this book just wasn’t for me. I’m not the correct audience. The only other taboo book I’ve read was Little Stranger and honestly, they’re adoptive siblings lol. I will say this book does a much better job of showing them as kids than Little Stanger. In that one it felt weirdly sexual and I obviously don’t want sexual things to be associated with children.

Please let there be a time jump soon, I really don’t fancy reading about a 17 or even freshly 18 year old🙃
