OMG! If I had to pick one scene from the whole series to describe DCC to someone unfamiliar with it, it would definitely be THAT karaoke scene from book 8 🤣🤣🤣

This was cute and whimsical. I enjoyed the first half and all of its shenanigans. The second half felt like sex and romance as described by someone who had never actually experienced it before. And the MMC was a bit too much of a Disney prince for my taste, especially after being so different in the first half. His apparent lack of a personal life and interests outside of the FMC was particularly off putting.

Still a cute book overall though.

I didn’t realize this was a Wuthering Heights retelling when I picked it. This take on the story was definitely unique, but it did make it feel a tad predictable, especially in the first half. That said, I was convinced the characters were real people, and it’s clear the author really did her homework writing this. Overall, it was a very enjoyable read.

I liked the first 75% of this one a lot. The setup for the next book was kind of tedious though, and I saw that cliffhanger coming from a mile away.

One of my best friends grew up in the foster system, and we have talked at length about her mental and emotional experiences with it. And our friendship is really coloring my experience with this book. Two defining traits of growing up in foster care are feeling like one has zero say in their own life and feeling like nobody cares to listen if they aren’t thrilled with how it’s going because “they should be grateful someone took them in at all.” Seeing Katarina perpetuate this trauma with Heath by making decisions without listening to him or explaining her logic is breaking my heart. Were most of them probably the right decisions for a better future? Yes. But accusing Heath of “brooding” while she makes decisions that impact them both without a second thought for how he feels about them is unfair.

Wait this is a Wuthering Heights retelling? I hope it’s not too close to the original. I didn’t dislike Wuthering Heights, but it’s not my favorite classic.

I really enjoyed most of this, especially Wendell the Disney Princess, but I HATED the twist. I felt the whole tone of the story changed, and then it never really got back to its original stride.

This book was masterfully done, and it deserves all the awards. Easily best book of 2026. It would make a really cool movie too. I won’t say anymore for fear of spoiling something because it’s best to go into this book completely blind.
