i don't typically listen to audiobooks but i have a heated eye mask now so things have CHANGED and chiwetel ejiofor is excellent, all the dreamy descriptions even feel dreamy because his voice is so light which i also think is just great for a character who seems to find the good in all things- i don't even find myself annoyed when i have to go back and rewind because i started being lulled to sleep and missed a minute or two lmao do think i want to make this a tandem read though because i went in blind and didn't realize it was told in journal entries- very curious to see what that looks like
anyway! this world is fascinating to me and i have so many questions brewing. thought i had a vague idea of some of the answers but then got hit with something that made me reconsider, so i will just appreciate taking it all in alongside piranesi. he's so in wonder of the things around him and i feel kind of unsettled by many of those things though, and it's interesting scrolling the forums and seeing how different readers view it

i happened upon a copy of the white deer (from 1945!) at a used book store today and bought it largely because i was charmed by the illustrations when i leafed through it. didn't expect tooooo much because i figured it would be more of a children's book than anything but the story itself was sooo very charming as well, a simple fairytale with silly characters and fun play with words and lots of great humor. actually had to look some words up, even, which is a part of the joy of reading to me, so, bonus points. super cute!

i read this ages ago closer to when it was first released (but didn't remember a lick of it, so a re-read was necessary) and it didn't leave enough of an impression then to inspire me to be on the lookout for future books, but honestly this time around it was a quick and fun read and i am wiser to my fondness for political intrigue nowadays so i'll definitely pick up the rest of the series to see where it goes with that
