The way Haynes jumps between characters/settings is interesting. So far I find it fun and think it's keeping me more engaged, but I wonder if as I get deeper into the story I'll start to find it bothersome. I really enjoyed the chapter Sthenno and loved the setup of the Gorgons!

This is my first time reading a retelling of a Greek myth and while I'm excited and intrigued, my first impression is that it's a little silly. I'm finding the first powers we're shown from these gods a bit hard to take seriously. Hopefully I'll get used to it cause I really want to like this book.

Rin and Venka's friendship is so lovely to me I hope it continues into the next book. I'd love to see more of Venka in general, I think she's a really cool character and has had a very interesting story so far.

How someone could read this book and not have Kitay as one of their favorite characters is beyond me. The end of chapter 29 with Venka had me tearing up :(

The moment Rin is able to call the fire again better be the coolest thing I've ever read cause I'm seriously anticipating it (and starting to get impatient lol). I'm super intrigued by the Ketreyids and hope they are prominent in the story going forward. I love Chaghan's character so I'm very excited to learn more of his background.

I'm obsessed with Arlong. I could read chapters and chapters just describing the city it is so so cool. I also love getting more background about Nezha and his family. I'm really interested to find out more about why he's so friendly with Rin now - is it all fake? Does he no longer see her as beneath him so he respects her now? Did war and almost dying make him a grow into a better person or would he still treat someone the same way he treated her at Sinegard if he saw them as less than him? Maybe he just doesn't need to keep up that facade since Rin knows him too well now, whether he wanted her to or not (especially after meeting Jinzha since we can tell the Nezha we first met was just trying to mimic his big brother). Of course I want to believe he's grown as a person but I don't know if I can buy it. Either way I can't wait to learn more about the Yin family.

Rin's arrogance is driving me crazy. I get it, she's super powerful but after everything that's happened wouldn't she have been humbled at least a little bit?? I really like her interactions with Vaisra because, even though they have weird vibes sometimes, at least he gets her to actually listen. I'm hopeful we can actually like/trust Vaisra but I kind of doubt it. Regardless of his dad, I really like Nezha as a character and am interested to see where his story goes - hopefully he gets something interesting.
