Post from the Communion: The Female Search for Love (Love Song to the Nation, #2) forum
i really appreciate that bell hooks is discussing the glorification of women as inherently superior to men from an emotional/love standpoint. it really highlights how complex the deconstruction of gender roles is- it's not enough to criticize the explicitly harmful consequences, but also incorrect assumptions that shield people (in this case, women) from criticism. her brief mentions of her family life throughout the book also intrigue me- i love the way her arguments stem from and intertwine with lived experience
