I finally finished this book after a long time, took a break during the holidays! My god, that ending was just not something I expected, it really hit me hard in its simplicity. Overall, I think "gorgeous" best describes this book: it's a bit slower, with rich and highly observational descriptions of interpersonal dynamics, and it immerses you so gently that you feel like you will forever listen to the narrator. It was such an enjoyable and slow read, and my heart was slowly cracking without me even noticing. Seriously, that ending just... I don't think I have ever reacted so strongly to something that is at first glance so "benign".

Used this book to get myself out of my reading slump and it worked because when you’ve hit your limit with Murakami’s weird fetishy descriptions of women and men’s sexual fantasies, you will want to read literally ANYTHING else.
Onwards to literally any other book!

Enjoying it so much so far. The style of writing isn't too difficult despite when it was written.

I can’t get myself to tolerate Rochester( let alone like), I can’t quite put a finger on it though there’s multiple reasons or so it seems

my experience reading this so far is that “trying to be chill at the function but can’t help noticing how misogyny bleeds through the cracks of normal interactions” meme😭

i really enjoy reading about this "insider" perspective on the feminist/sexual liberatiom movement of the 60s. its intriguing to see how even good intentions can be executed poorly or perceived differently by non-feminist people. also, i love love love bell hooks' writing style. she speaks with such confidence, i trust her wholeheartedly
