I guess the dependency (relationship?) between Alexey and Polina will be a really toxic one.

Social ills mixed with mystery, paranormal occurrences condensed into short stories.
While this collection has its highlights, most of the stories feel a bit shallow and underdeveloped. It’s fairly obvious that this was the author's debut short story collection, as the pieces in Things We Lost in the Fire feel much more polished.
Still, it’s a worthwhile read. However, I'd recommend picking it up after Things We Lost in the Fire if you want to explore more of Mariana Enriquez's work. Starting here might cause you to lose interest too early.

It seems that the stories in the second half of Enriquez's books are much more intense than the first ones. After reading Where Are You, Dear Heart? and Meat, my opinion of the book is much higher now.
The weird obsession (and mental disorder?) of the girl in "Where Are You, Dear Heart?" was really shocking, and all the details about the different heart illnesses and how they affected her body were so intense. On the other hand, "Meat" wasn't as detailed as the previous story, but THAT scene where the fans do that to their idol was absolutely disgusting.
All in all, great stories... I'm looking forward to reading the last ones!

Just like with other short stories, the way the plot develops and is presented is really good. Reading it feels just like watching a movie. You might want to think twice if you're planning on moving to Barcelona!

I still do not get what is going on and that annoys me. Why shouldn't I DNF it? 🤔

I'm not sure what to think about this book so far. I really like how the atmosphere of each story is built, but the plots haven't been as strong as the ones in Things we lost in the fire. Since they are all short stories, I'm definitely going to keep reading to see how it goes.
